Sports and Spinal injuriesTreatment is focussed on restoring your mobility in safe and effective way so you can return to your favourite activities as soon as possible, be they running, walking, cycling, rugby, netball or gardening. Many back and neck injuries can be managed with self treatments using the McKenzie method which teaches you what movements to use to reduce your pain and improve your flexibility. A variety of modalities is used from manual therapy to massage and exercise prescription. Strengthening of tummy and back- the so called core muscles- can be beneficial to prevent future injuries. Strapping may be part of your treatment and you can be taught how to do this yourself. Braces and supports can be ordered for you. If you have arthritis you may benefit from a safe exercise programme to maintain or improve your flexibility and strength. Golden Bay Community Health runs a fun and social exercise class on a Monday morning with physio assistant Jacinda Hohepa. This class is especially suited to the over 65 age group with a focus on falls prevention. Jacinda also runs the local Sit and Be Fit class and the Walk and Be Fit class. Erica can assess you and will refer you to the most suitable class. |
